Irene and Mike... Amateur Bolers
Legalities

So before I can officially register the boler in my name I need to get my parents to give me a bill of sale. I have the registration signed over to me already.

Once I get that, then apparently I gotta get the Boler Safetied. This kind of scares me… hopefully it doesn’t need too much work.

On the road

We left early this morning. Boler is easy to pull. At the moment we’re getting about 14.3 litres per 100kms

Tow vehicle is now a tow vehicle… almost.

Well, the local guy was too busy so I went with the dealership and paid an arm and a leg… but it got done. I now have the hitch and wiring done. I just need to purchase the ball which I’ll do later this week.

I may be towing the boler with the torrent for the first time this weekend… details soon.

When practicality hits…

So next month the plan was to be going to southern Texas, but with gas prices the way they are we started talking…

First we started thinking… “We could go to Cuba for a week!” But we would not have our boler adventure and I would gain 900 lbs due to the “all inclusive” part of the whole thing.

So a boler adventure is still alive… it’s just we’re not going to be going as far. And just think… the money saved on this trip could be put into the boler… maybe… possibly. It’s at this point where I give my wife that look… the same look that has a 5% chance of working but when it does work I for some stupid reason think it’s really effective. 5% of the time it works 100% of the time!

We’ve decided to make our way to southern Minnesota instead. I know what you’re thinking, kind of boring right? Yeah, maybe, but at least we’ll be camping. I’d like to spend a little time in the twin cities. I’d really like to catch a baseball game since I’ve only ever seen on professional game in my life (I checked the schedule… D-Backs).

Since we’re on the subject of baseball, we’re kind of suckers for tourist traps. One such tourist trap sounds like it would be neat to see… even if it is for 15-20 minutes. We’d like to make the drive to heaven…. oh, excuse me…. Iowa!

I realize Iowa gets a bad rap, the one really cool thing I know about Iowa is that the have an awesome cross state bike ride… look up RAGBRAI. This is something I’d love to be able to do… but not this year. Instead I’m going to see a baseball field that was created when some movie star wanted to make a movie about some average joe buying a farm, hears voices, plows over his field and spends their savings on a baseball field. Sounds crazy, I know…

At this point we’re just going to play it by ear. We could head west and check out South Dakota. I love the badlands, beautiful country. We could also check out Wisconsin… or even check out the upper P in MI.

All these ideas could get reverted back to Texas, but I doubt it. I think this makes more sense for us since we’ve got some small home projects that need to be done this spring. There will be other trips, longer trips and hopefully those longer trips will be in a boler that we can be proud of! That’s not to say I’m not proud of it now, I’d just like to see “Charlie” as we’re calling him/her dressed up a little better before we take her out dancing. :)

First purchase!

So I went to the Scamp Website and ordered an exterior door handle for our boler. The Old one hasn’t had a key for centuries… or at least since my dad had it.

I want to remove the hasp… it’s not that attractive. I’m sure it’s personality is great, but…

I was a little taken aback when I checked out my order. $16 for the handle which is fine, but $28.16 for shipping? Geez, I could have used that money for a nice campground…

I’m thinking I should start keeping track of how much everything is going to cost me as I make my mods and fixes.

Talked to the Boler this morning… told her she’ll get a nice bath, a few small fixes, and then next month… Southern Texas!
